I don’t always include the story, but I sort of feel like I need to explain this one. My friend had sent me a message on how they needed people to serve in a certain position. When she described it, it sounded like something I would be good at (or so I thought!) I assumed she was telling me because she wanted to ask me to be in the role. (I may or may not have been rehearsing my acceptance speech, lol). Well, she wasn’t, she was only telling me what she was going to participate in. I felt a little dumb… and a little envious… maybe even jealous. Sigh. This is why I wrote this prayer.

Prayer for Envy

Lord,

Thank you so much for transforming my life. Thank you for convicting me with your never-ending love whose goal is just to make a better version of me. Thank you for loving me enough to not leave me the same.

Help me identify when I am envious of others. Let no bitter root grow up in me to cause trouble (Heb 12:14). Remind me that I am called, I have a unique voice, a unique gift and a unique calling that is predetermined by You just for ME! I know that I am God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God has prepared in advance for ME to do (Eph 2:10). Help me remember that I am supposed to run with perseverance the race marked out for ME (Heb 12:1).

I am perfectly made in his image and I will remember that the Holy Spirit is given to each of us in a special way that is for the good of all (2 Cor 12:7). And, although there are different kinds of gifts and different ways to serve, they all come from the same Lord (2 Cor 12:4-5).

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image (Psa 139:4).

Thank you for transforming me. I love you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
